about

If I can raise a few quid, it will be used for the strike hardship funds.

This is an old union song by Aunt Molly Jackson, circa 1931. I have added some verses.

All instruments by me.

lyrics

I am a union man just as strong as I can be,
I do not like the bosses and the bosses don't like me.

Join the NEU, join the NEU.

I was raised in old West Yorkshire, West Yorkshire born and bred,
When I joined the union, they called me the Russian Red.

We are many thousands strong and I am glad to say,
We are getting stronger now and stronger everyday.

If you want to join a union as strong as it can be,
Join the dear old NEU and come along with me.

The ministers said they'd talk if we called off the strikes,
They didn't say what we'd gain but we knew we'd lose our rights.

There's money enough for the rich but not enough for schools,
If they think we're buying that then they must take us for fools.
